Rani Mukerji to turn cop for YRF’s boldest movie ever, Mardaani
A new role with a brand new appearance is what’s awaiting Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji as she has signed up for Aditya Chopra’s next projectMardaani. Rani will be playing a cop for the first time in the movie which will be helmed by Pradeep Sarkar. As reported by close sources, the movie is said to be the boldest one by Yash Raj Films till date.
A source said, "This film titledMardaaniwill be the boldest movie till date under the YRF banner. Pradeep had directed Rani inLaaga Chunari Mein Daagtoo." The source added, "Rani has played versatile roles from being a grieving mother in her last filmTalaashwith Aamir Khan, to portraying a headstrong journalist but this time, she will be seen in an all-new bold role." It has been heard that according to the script a strong heroine was required for the role and YRF’s favourite and Aditya Chopra’s ladylove Rani won over Pradeep Sarkar’s preferred actress Vidya Balan in the race. The source also said, "Aditya and his team were scouting around and thought Rani seemed to be an obvious choice, for more than one reason. Plus, the production house is really fond of her."
While YRF’s spokesperson also confirmed Rani’s presence in the film, Pradeep Sarkar commented on Rani’s new role, "The film will be raw and gritty. It is something that neither Rani nor I have attempted before. And it's always good to invade in new territories, isn't it?" Sarkar also talked about signing up Rani and not Vidya for the role, "Yes, Vidya is my favourite. But I have other favourites too. And Rani is definitely one of them. I have a very comfortable equation with Rani. And things just fell into place as far Rani's inclusion in the film is concerned. I told Adi that we should go with Rani inMardaani."Mardaaniis expected to go on floorssometimearound the end of this year.
