There are a very few couples in B-Town who look made for each other. Amitabh and Rekha did, but they could never be together. Or maybe they were never meant to be. Perhaps all the people who complement each other’s personality and look like a dream aren’t necessarily the ones who end up together. Do they?

They looked made for each other!

He was wearing a long maroon kurta and salwar with a black half jacket, she was looking stunning in a cream and red saree with turquoise earrings and dark kohl eyes in flat footwear. Both were walking shoulder to shoulder like a dream. As Deepika and Ranbir entered the open air garden which was dressed like a bride on Diwali, the duo filled in colours in the already made rangoli, lit diyas and burst crackers with the media.

It would not be an exaggeration if we could take the liberty to say that they looked like Ram and Sita walking together in a floral atmosphere with the songs of Tamasha playing in the background and the most beautiful lights and decorations with some palate tickling food around with freshly made jalebis.

Everyone around was just gaping at them and murmuring that why aren’t they together anymore! They really looked made for each other! Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were busy promoting their then upcoming movie Tamasha. There seemed to be an unsaid understanding between them. Not an inch of discomfort or any sign of consciousness on their face made them an exemplary ex-couple who had moved on in every literal sense.

Deepika was then rumoured to be dating her Bajirao Mastani co-star Ranveer Singh who later promoted Tamasha with Ranbir and Deepika, making another remarkable appearance and impression.

Ranbir and Deepika’s eyes and body language clearly stated that the two weren’t in love anymore. But, there was a great sense of belonging, protectiveness and comfort between the two.

Before we ponder over why they aren’t together anymore, let’s see how their love blossomed.

How did this gorgeous looking couple meet?

Deepika and Ranbir shared common makeup artists. One of them insisted that they should speak to each other and strike friendship.

They started dating on 28th February 2008.

And as fate had it, Ranbir said in an interview in 2008, “It was meant to be only lunch.” Deepika added, “But lunch became coffee; coffee became cheesecake; and cheesecake became movie.” And rest we know is history. The scion of the Kapoor khandaan, Ranbir Raj Kapoor had fallen in love with SRK’s leading lady in Om Shanti Om who came from a non-filmy family background with middle class upbringing and a strong sense of independence and individuality.

The same day they watched Mr Bean’s Holiday together at PVR Cinemas in Juhu. That day didn’t end there. He dropped her home and love had happened.

As gossipy as they may sound, there’s a pattern in all the love stories in Bollywood, that lovers don’t generally give away sleeper hits when they work together in a movie. The moment they break up, they end up giving a blockbuster to the masses and the filmmakers rejoice because moolahs pour in from people who want to see a certain Jodi for one last time on screen together.

When Ranbir and Deepika signed Siddharth Anand’s Bachna Ae Haseeno under YRF’s banner, little did they know that cupid was going to hit the arrow in the bull’s eye! There is a very prominent video on the internet where during the promotions of the film, Deepika and Ranbir sing Khuda Jaane, hand in hand and their love is absolutely evident. The film didn’t make a mark at the box-office, but the film industry and fans got a new pair to look forward to. Both of them lit every frame they’d appear in, be it movies, TV interviews, or even Award function, Ran-Deep would walk hand in hand and slay it everywhere with their chemistry.

They looked too promising together to be separated in real life, but fate had other plans.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani

Very little is known about their break up, but a fact that surfaces everytime is that apparently, Ranbir cheated on Deepika for Katrina, who was his co-star in Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani. Their break up came as a shocker to their crazy fan following, and every one lost hope to see this duo together again.

How destinies changed!

Bollywood had never seen a couple who would come together after a break up to work together in a film. The younger generation had never seen such a spectacle and little did any filmmaker care about this. Once done, it was dusted forever, and it was taken for granted that ex-lovers never work together.

But, here, the case was different. Ranbir and Deepika made a thumping come back with Ayan Mukherjee’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and left every critic speechless. The fans went nuts over the duo and everyone started praying that the two should just rethink and reunite in real life.

Moving on is a different thing, forgetting is also manageable, but forgiving? Think about it!

Their love was just like yours!

Like all other lovers who drown in the ocean of admiration for each other, Deepika and Ranbir did leave a few dots behind, leaving to be joined. Deepika got an RK tattoo on her neck; the love birds gave some unforgettable interviews about their love story, notwithstanding the fact that their emotions and relationship was a part of the marketing strategy of their films, not for their real lives.

You could sense the innocence of their relationship in an old interview of Deepika. “It’s a fantastic feeling. He is very caring. I am glad that I am finally in a relationship where my man loves me so much and for what I am. Also, when we met again, so much had already happened in our respective lives. We came from two different spaces. But we connected. The fact that both our families are also happy about this relationship makes it easier.”

The world knows how Ranbir’s parents didn’t like the Koffee With Karan episode post their break up when Deepika said that she wants to gift condoms to Ranbir. Little did she know that the Kapoors she knew wouldn’t take it with a pinch of salt? Before this fiasco, she had said, “They are wonderful. His mum (Neetu Kapoor) is very sweet. Kapoors are loving people. They are all foodies. It’s another thing common between us. He loves to see me eating the way I do, because the other women he knows are always picking on ghas phoos.”

While Ranbir was never hesitant in talking about his relationship with Deepika, he was the silent lover in the love story. It was Deepika who was innocently more expressive and emotional. “He is everything to me. He is someone I can talk to about everything and that’s the beauty of our relationship,” she once quoted.

Will They Be Together Again?

All of us at some point of time in life accept that love never dies, it’s the feeling that diminishes, but that sense of caring and protection remains irrespective of all the bitterness in the relationship. It’s like the relationship you share with your best friend. You can bully them and bad mouth them when you feel like, but if any other person in the world dares to cross the line, they’ve to go through you and they better be dead.

In a leading daily’s interview, Deepika was asked, ‘Do you still love Ranbir?’ Deepika’s answer didn’t come as a surprise. “Of course I do. I don't think that every feeling has to be broken down as I don't believe that emotions are unidimensional anyway. Feelings and emotions are very layered. He is someone I have always loved and someone I will always be extremely possessive about and very protective about,” she said.

Ranbir too had a similar answer to this question. “Yes of course. The amount of love I have for Deepika is like family. It's very warm; it's about care, about being proud of her. The facet of love, care and respect has changed but changed for the better. It's not your immature I love her kind of feeling. It's mature and that's come with age. Also, we have both positively moved on with our lives.”

Love happens and it happened again to both of them

There's a much talked about line in the Break Up Song from ADHM, which is, 'Kalti hua jo saiyyan stupid tera, jeevit hua hai phirse cupid tera!' which is quite true in all love stories. The moment you break up, cupid arrows are waiting to fire away and strike your heart again! 

The world knows how there’s a man who can do anything to woo Deepika Padukone and is head over heels in love with her! The befikre star, Ranveer Singh! His Mastani (Deepika’s character in Bajirao) is the most beautiful and talented woman in the world. He gazes at her like a dream. They’re opposite to each other in every little aspect. She’s quiet, he’s expressive. He’s a powerhouse of energy, she’s gauges the situation to invest her energy in it. Ranveer and Ranbir are cordial with each other. Infact Mr. Singh promoted their movie Tamasha in 2015 and made headlines. It’s very uneasy to the eyes of people to see the lady with a completely opposite man, but his love is madness. Girls wish they had a man like him in their lives and we wonder what Miss Padukone thinks.

It’s been a long way since Ranbir and Deepika broke up. While Ranbir dated Katrina for a good amount of years, the duo recently broke up in 2016, the reasons of which are particularly unknown. Rumour mills suggest that marriage was the point of contention, but no one knows the truth.

Recent reports also suggest that Deepika and Ranveer have apparently broken up. The reasons of which are best known to gossip mongers!

Ranbir hasn’t had a great time at the movies and his faith lies in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, while Deepika’s career has never been better, thanks to her Hollywood innings in The Return of the Xander Cage with Vin Diesel.
