4 Times Ajay Devgn Proved He’s A Boss At Winning Diwali Clashes!
There’s something about Ajay, there’s some about clashes and there’s something about Diwali! Yes, while you’re probably wondering if his decision to lock horns with forever trending Ae Dil Hai Mushkil may backfire big time, the legacy he holds is quite unique. Ajay’s record at winning Diwali clashes is so brutal that it may for a second make the best in the business go nervous.
Yes while we await the big Diwali clash to unfold in some 50 days, we just found out where Ajay Devgn gets all this confidence from. This is not the first time he’s involved in a big Diwali battle and his recent history warrant a solid back-up for him.
Here are 4 times Ajay Devgn proved that he’s really a boss at winning Diwali clashes:
Golmaal Returns Vs Fashion (2008)
The Diwali of 2008 saw a lot of different releases in a span of a week. While some big releases came a week earlier, the spotlight remained on Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Returns and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion that starred Priyanka Chopra. Needless to say the masala comedy was the top pick but given the kind of mediocrity it produced against a quality film like Fashion, Golmaal Returns’ victory was unique.
All The Best Vs Main Aur Mrs Khanna Vs Blue (2009)
Imagine a Diwali clash that involved stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Kareena Kapoor and more! The 2009 Diwali saw the mentioned three movies clashing with one another. While Blue opened the biggest, Salman’s Main Aur Mrs. Khanna and Ajay’s All The Best were found at 2nd and 3rd spot respectively. However, at the end of the first week when things settled, tables turned and All The Best became the top choice of cinegoers. While both Blue and Mrs. Khanna eventually bombed, the only hit film out of the clash was the Ajay Devgn starrer.
Golmaal 3 Vs Action Replayy (2010)
Attempting a hat-trick at being a Diwali winner, Ajay once again decided to turn up on Diwali to fight a battle that looked very challenging. Akshay-Aishwarya’s Action Replayy was a much talked about project and it was facing the third instalment of Golmaal series as a competition. While Golmaal 3 unanimously won the hearts of people all around, Action Replayy owing to its tremendously poor execution made way for Ajay Devgn to thump his first 100 crore movie. It was also only the first comedy in Indian history to earn more than 100 crores.
Son of Sardar Vs Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
This was quite a massive affair after all the controversy that took place to the build up of this clash. While Ajay’s team accused YRF to usurp most screens around the country, YRF quashed all such reports. However, it was a happy ending for both the parties and perhaps a happier one for Ajay. When Son of Sardar was pitched against JTHJ, Ajay was mostly believed to have lost the game already. However, the total collections ended up being almost as identical as the SRK starrer’s. This was Ajay’s third film in the 100 crore club.
Here’s the catch:
While Ajay may have been a step ahead at all the Diwali clashes he’s been a part of, this time however things are different. For the very first time he comes out to take on without the support of a comedy film. He neither has Rohit Shetty’s back up and nor does he have the widely accepted comic tone to his film. If Ajay ends up winning this battle, this will be a first for him to sail away with an action flick!
