Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil has scored the biggest hit of his career with "Aavesham". Even as the film continues to perform well in theatres, its streaming debut is expected soon.

Industry insiders speculate that "Aavesham" will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on May 9. However, an official confirmation on this matter is still pending.

Following prevailing industry trends, new South Indian films, including Malayalam movies, typically become available on streaming platforms within four weeks of their theatrical release. This practice has sparked controversy among stakeholders in the South Indian film industry.

Exhibitors and distributors have protested against the trend of early OTT releases for new films, advocating for a minimum eight-week window before streaming availability. Despite their efforts, desired changes have yet to materialize.

Streaming rights have introduced a new revenue stream for producers, offsetting significant production costs. Many producers mitigate financial losses, even if their films underperform at the box office, through digital rights sales.

However, there have been exceptions to this trend. For instance, "Manjummel Boys" and "Premalu" enjoyed extended theatrical runs.
