Actor-filmmaker Rana Daggubati expressed a sense of disbelief and gratitude while discussing his upcoming movie, Vettaiyan. He was overjoyed by the opportunity to share screen space with Superstar Rajinikanth, who is playing the titular role in Vettaiyan.

Rana Daggubati also revealed that Vettaiyan is not a "typical Rajinikanth movie." The film is helmed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim, known for making hard-hitting socio-political dramas.

"Vettaiyan is not like a usual Rajinikanth film. It's amazing that he is doing a film like that. It's a drama that's very interesting; it's about the judiciary, police, and entrepreneurial systems and it's a well-researched story. Very happy that Rajinikanth chose that film and I could be a part of it," Rana Daggubati revealed on a podcast.

Rana Daggubati is part of a sprawling supporting cast, which also includes Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan.

Vettaiyan marks a massive leap in Gnanavel's career as it has given him a bigger canvas and India's biggest superstars to tell his story. His last film, Jai Bhim, was a medium-budget drama. Even though it featured Tamil superstar Suriya in the lead role, it was released directly on Amazon Prime Video.

However, soon after its release, Jai Bhim dominated the pop cultural discourse in the country for months. It even sparked several political controversies. Jai Bhim made a lot of right noises across the world for its direct and evocative portrayal of caste prejudices and how they influence the criminal justice system.

Similarly, Vettaiyan is expected to shed light on the ills of extra-judicial killings and police high-handedness. However, currently, we have limited information about the film's plot.

In the meantime, the shooting for Vettaiyan is going on undisrupted. Recently, Rajinikanth returned to Chennai after completing a combination scene with Hindi film icon Amitabh Bachchan.

Rajinikanth revealed that about 80 per cent of the film has been completed. The film is expected to arrive in cinemas in October this year.
