Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw two ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024-bound players, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, depart in quick succession. The home team promoted hard-hitter Shivam Dube up the order after Ajinkya Rahane departed for 29 off 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. However, the move did not prove to be in their favour as Dube departed for a duck on the first ball he faced. Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja followed suit as he walked back for 2 off 4.

For Dube, the umpire thought long and finally gave it OUT; however, Dube reviewed it immediately. The ball delivered by Harpreet Brar was tossed up on leg and straightened onto the left-hander. Dube was shaping for the mow over mid-wicket and missed it. The ball struck on the back thigh which was bent. Ball-tracking showed all three reds as Shivam Dube departed for 0(1).

As for Jadeja, he was almost on his way back after the umpire gave him out, but he turned back towards his captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad ran all the way, and the two decided to review. Jadeja was looking to nudge Rahul Chahar's delivery to the on-side but ended up playing all around the line. Ball-tracking showed all three reds again as the ball crashed into the leg, and he had to go for 2(4).

As of writing this article, 16 overs were done and dusted with CSK managing to score 111 runs while losing four wickets. Sameer Rizvi departed for 21 off 23, courtesy of Kagiso Rabada. Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to field. Their regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan is still unavailable, and Sam Curran, at the toss, said his team is excited after they won the last game and are going with the same team.

As for CSK, they will be missing out on Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande today. Pathirana has a slight niggle, while Deshpande isn't well. They have brought in Shardul Thakur, and Richard Gleeson makes his debut.
