Not a birthday Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma would have wanted, especially also the day when the T20 World Cup squad was announced and the USA-West Indies-bound players did not perform. In Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) restricted Mumbai Indians (MI) to just 144 runs as they lost 7 wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

MI lost their top order within the Powerplay, managing just 28 runs and losing four wickets. However, the two left-handers, Ishan Kishan (32 off 36), and Nehal Wadhera (46 off 41), formed a good partnership to stabilize the innings. Later, Tim David came in and contributed runs to the board, scoring 35 off 18 balls, including 1 maximum and 3 fours. For LSG, Mohsin Khan picked two wickets, while Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi claimed one each.

The new ball bowlers removed Rohit Sharma (4 off 5) and Suryakumar Yadav (10 off 6) cheaply. Tilak Varma was run out for 7 off 11, and India's vice-captain, Hardik Pandya, was dismissed for a duck. Mohammad Nabi also could not help much as he departed for 1 off 2 while Gerald Coetzee remained not-out for 1 off 2 as well.

As for LSG, they will be without the services of Quinton de Kock. Arshin Kulkarni, who was part of the U19 World Cup India squad has been brought in the team.
